KR Gonzales (she/they) is a Filipino-Canadian cinematographer practicing in Kelowna and Vancouver, BC, on the unceded territories of the Syilx, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

She earned a degree in AB Multimedia Arts from Asia Pacific College in the Philippines and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production at the University of British Columbia. She also attended directing and producing classes at the Cinemalaya Institute as a Vision Petron scholar. In 2019, she was a writer fellow in Jun Robles Lana’s CinePanulat Screenwriting Lab.

Her film and media experience includes her short directorial, Quieter is Louder, screened at the Tokyo Deaf International Film Festival. She also co-directed 5 Dog Years, a short film that won the Grand Prize at the Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2018. In addition to her work in narrative filmmaking, she has experience in advertising as a video specialist and editor, producing, shooting, and editing content for brands such as Tefal, SM North Edsa, Pru Life UK, and Mega Sardines.

KR is also part of the independent multimedia collective Studio Pulo, which recently co-produced Fin/Huling Palabas, a Berlinale Generation 2024 feature film directed by Ryan Machado.

Interested in exploring queer sensibilities, the immigrant diaspora, and the emotional textures of her encounters, she aspires to broaden her perspective by immersing herself in Canadian media, hoping to tell stories that resonate universally. She enjoys sending cat memes to her friends and family in her spare time.
